Introduction

1.0 Introduction

Economics is concerned with studying some of the major issues facing the world today. Unemployment taxation trade flows third world development pollution and political and economic restructuring in former communist countries are some of the problems of which economists need to be able to understand the complex nature of the economic problems which faced 21st century societies. This is what we equip our students.

The main objectives are to teach the students:

(i)     To think analytically and critically.

(ii)   To take complex problems and break them down to key components.

(iii) To use up-to-date theoretical ideas as a guide for understanding.

(iv) To use statistical and econometric techniques to test theoretical models for their adequacy as representations of real world problems.

(v)   To think strategically when put into situations of potential conflict.

(vi) To communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.

Requirements

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR B.SC. IN ECONOMICS

Applicants must satisfy the minimum entry requirements for admission into the University by attaining an average grade of B- in the 8subjects they offer at KSCE or equivalent examinations.. Additionally, applicants must offer passes in the following subjects:-

- English C+

- Mathematics B (plain)

The B.Sc. program in Economics requires the student to complete a minimum of 48 courses; at least 37 of which will be core.
